Funeral director answering service
Every family met with patience and care, at any hour
When someone calls a funeral home, it is often the hardest call they have ever made. It might be 3 a.m. They might be standing in a hospital hallway or at a loved one’s bedside at home. What they need first is a calm, kind person who listens. What your funeral home needs is every detail captured correctly and your director on call reached quickly.
Our funeral home answering service does both. Live agents answer in your funeral home’s name 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in English and Spanish. They follow your first-call protocol step by step, comfort families without rushing them, and make sure nothing is missed. Southern Voices has answered calls since 1995 from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and we treat these calls with the respect they deserve.

Nights, weekends & holidays
First calls handled with care, around the clock
A first call can’t wait until morning. When one comes in, our agent speaks gently, takes the time the caller needs, and collects the information your funeral home has asked for, such as the name of the deceased, where they are, the caller’s name and relationship, a callback number, and whether hospice or a physician is involved. Then the agent follows your escalation list to reach your director on call, moving to the next person if the first doesn’t answer.
Your on-call rotation stays current in our system, and you can update it any time staffing changes. More on keeping it up to date: loading and updating your rotating on-call schedule.

Sounding like you
Your funeral home’s name, your tone, your words
Families should never feel they’ve reached a call center. We write a custom greeting and script with you, so agents use the words you use and know which details matter most to your directors. When a caller needs a moment, the agent gives it. When they have a question we can’t answer, the agent says so honestly and makes sure someone from your team will call back.
For Spanish-speaking families, our bilingual agents answer in Spanish live, not through a “press 2” menu or a translation line. See bilingual answering, and read does your answering service sound like you?

Questions
Funeral director answering service FAQs
Don’t see your question? Call and ask a live agent, any time.
What information do your agents collect on a first call?
Whatever your protocol asks for. Most funeral homes want the name of the deceased, where they are, the caller’s name, relationship and callback number, and whether hospice, a hospital or a physician is involved. We build your list into the script.
How quickly is our director on call reached?
The agent starts your escalation list as soon as the first-call details are taken, and moves to the next contact if the first person doesn’t answer, until someone has the call.
Will callers know they’ve reached an answering service?
Agents answer in your funeral home’s name with a greeting you approve. How you want agents to describe themselves is your choice, and we write it into your script.
Can you answer during services when our staff is busy?
Yes. Many funeral homes forward overflow calls to us during services and visitations, as well as nights and weekends.
